Alejandra Roma Upper Division 5th grade
Alejandra is from Orlando, Florida, and moved to Queens with her family when she was in high school. She comes from a large Cuban- Puerto Rican family, being 1 of 6 kids. Growing up, her teachers were always her role models and mentors. School was a safe haven for her, and she knew that at some point she would end up becoming a teacher. She believes in a classroom environment that is student led, where each student is engaged and empowered to find their gifts and talents.
Alejandra earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology at Nyack College. At Nyack College, she ran division II cross country and was enrolled in the Honors Program. Inspired to learn more about the relationship between Latin America and the United States, she studied abroad in Central and South America. She went on to earn a Masters degree in a dual certification program, Childhood Education and Special Education, at Hunters College.
She is married to Edward, a high school math teacher. They live in Sunnyside, Queens with their two rescue cats, Artemis and Athena.
