Jean Kim (Upper Division - ELA)
Jean graduated from Seoul National University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree in English Education and Aesthetics. She also completed her Masters in Teaching of English at Teachers College, Columbia University. She discovered her passion for education while teaching English to underprivileged students during college.
Jean grew up in a small town in New Jersey called Kinnelon and also lived in Seoul, one of the biggest cities in the world. She also traveled to many places, including Europe, Africa, India, and China, and plans to visit the Antelope Canyon in Arizona and Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia soon. Having lived abroad and traveled extensively, she has an excellent understanding of many cultures, and traditions. Besides traveling, Jean loves to cook and visit art museums.
Jean believes that reading great works of literature not only allows students to develop strong critical thinking skills but also enables them to explore multiple perspectives on interesting social and cultural issues. By introducing a wide variety of literary texts, Jean feels responsible to encourage her students to expand their worldviews, understand more about themselves and others, and ultimately enjoy learning.
