Esteban Villafuerte (Upper Division - Science)
Esteban grew up in the small town of Andrews, Texas. After graduating from Andrews High School, he moved to New York City to study math and science at Columbia University. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Columbia, he went on to City College and graduated with a Master of Science degree in Education. He has been a middle school science teacher since 2009 and currently lives in Astoria with his wife and daughter.
Esteban loves teaching science because it’s all about asking questions and trying to find out the answers. He hopes to instill in his students the idea that learning is fun and important and takes place both in and outside of school. Some of the things Esteban enjoys doing to further his learning include reading books, visiting zoos and gardens, studying Spanish, playing guitar, and having conversations with others.
Esteban also believes it is important to use one’s knowledge and resources to help others. He has been involved with things like volunteering at a local food pantry, raising money for cancer patients, fostering children, and voting in local, state, and national elections.
