Corey Marx (Upper Division – Social Studies)

Corey grew up on Long Island, living in both Suffolk and Nassau counties as a child.  Until Grade 5, he attended Fifth Avenue Elementary School in East Northport, before moving to Roslyn where he attended Roslyn Middle School and Roslyn High School. His favorite courses in school were Social Studies and Spanish.  From an early age, Corey valued lessons from his schooling which taught the importance of caring for others and civic responsibility.  As a student, Corey was involved in Marching Band, and enjoyed playing pick-up sports with friends, especially baseball, football and soccer.

Corey graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in History Education and a minor in Spanish.  In the early stages of his teaching career, Corey earned his Master’s degree in History from Queens College, while working as a teacher at Roslyn High School.  Corey chose to become a teacher in order to make an impact on the lives of others, just as many of his teachers had made an impact on him.  He believes wholeheartedly that crafting a classroom community, which fosters the idea of inclusion, in terms of the needs and interests of all students, is one a teacher’s most important jobs.  Corey strongly believes in the need to consistently challenge students, have students engage in inquiry tasks in the classroom, and believes that teaching is a privilege, opportunity, and an honor.

Corey is very interested in traveling the world, and has a goal to one day visit all fifty states in America.  During the summer months, Corey works as a Teen Travel Counselor and loves to meet people from around the United States and world.  He feels it is very important to read, learn about, and experience the history, culture and cuisine of others.  When he has free time, Corey enjoys playing golf, cooking, reading, and spending quality time with family and friends.
