Chidi Amasiani (Upper Division - ICT)

ChidiChidi earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Toxicology and Minor in Chemistry at St. John’s University. She recently graduated with her Master’s of Science in Education, specializing in Students with Disabilities, at Brooklyn College. She started her teaching career through the NYC Teaching Fellows Program and became certified as a 7 - 12 Special Education Generalist.

Through her rigorous undergraduate years, Chidi realized she had a knack for teaching because she was always hosting study groups for her peers. It wasn’t until after she graduated, that she missed the feeling of sharing her knowledge and understanding with others, and wanted to become a teacher of her own. Chidi chose to work in special education because she knew she could use her skills, to her advantage. By breaking material down differently and creating alternatives, Chidi is able to give all of her students various platforms for accessing the curriculum. She is always striving to create an environment of inclusion for all her students, where each of them are held to equitable standards. She wants her students to feel challenged, the way she did in school, so she encourages and welcomes inquiry. Asking questions shows her the students are actively engaged with the teacher and each other. Chidi also hopes to make her students more responsible for their work and learning, by ensuring they advocate for what they need.

Chidi was born and raised in Queens, NY and was a New York City public school student from 3rd - 12th grade. She was accepted into the STEM program at Bayside High School, where she built her love and understanding for the math and science subjects. During her freshman year at St. John’s University, Chidi was accepted into the Global Passport Program, where she took a semester of Philosophy, before traveling abroad to Rome, Italy for 10 days, with her professor and classmates. The experience was very fulfilling and inspiring for Chidi, and she gained her love for travelling and world cultures through the opportunity. Chidi is also an avid crafter and enjoys hobbies like photography and painting. Chidi also loves serving her communities. She’s been volunteering since middle school, helping many communities. Her love for service can be seen through the efforts she puts into making Q300 a better place. She enjoys putting a smile on everyone’s face.
