Sonita Ramkishun, Principal
Sonita earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and her first Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She started her journey in education working as a lead teacher in a charter school and extended her path three years later working for New York City public schools. While teaching, she was an administrator intern and worked towards her Masters in Educational leadership with a focus on Inquiry with students, teachers, and leaders. After completing the program, Sonita earned her school building license and school district license. For two years she shadowed her principal, led meetings, conducted after school programs, and used data to develop curriculum to meet the needs of every student. Throughout that process she knew she wanted to aspire and branch out and explore different areas of education. With a passion for Math and Science stemming from her college Biology classes, Sonita accepted a job at Q300 as their third grade teacher. Sonita’s love for teaching gifted students motivated her to pursue her certificate in gifted education in the summer. Sonita continues to be a part of the leadership team and is currently the Principal.
Sonita loves to travel, loves learning about the new health fads, and loves to spend time with her loved ones. She comes from a close family where support is the number one driving force that keeps everyone together. In her free time, she likes to tour the city like a tourist. You could find her visiting a new restaurant or pop-up shop or viewing the latest Broadway show. Sonita also has a love for learning something new!
Sonita was born and raised in Queens and has always been a believer of endless possibilities. She was the first child to be born in the United States and the first one in her family to graduate from college. She looks forward to what the future has in store for her and reminds her students everyday to always “be positive.”
