Rebecca Silverman (Upper Division - ICT)
Rebecca grew up on Long Island in Nassau County, and lived there for her entire life. She attended Catholic school straight through college, and did not attend a public school until getting hired by the NYCDOE in September of 2019. Rebecca attended St. Ignatius of Loyola in Hicksville from first grade through sixth grade. In seventh grade, she attended Kellenberg Memorial in Uniondale, where she also went on to complete high school. Rebecca’s favorite subjects were always English and Social Studies, as they both require similar skill sets and have similar structures.
Rebecca graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early and Primary Teacher Education. During the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree, she began and completed an Accelerated Master’s Program in Special Education as well. Rebecca chose to become a teacher because of her love for working with children, passion for helping others, and as a way for paying tribute to the many wonderful teachers that graced her during her own education al career. She believes that a classroom is successful when negativity is left at the door, respect is given to and by all, inclusion is practiced, and a love for learning is present. Her philosophy of education states that “No two children may learn in the same way, or in the same day, and that will always be ok.”
Rebecca has always loved dancing and singing. She is yearning to travel to many of the world’s beautiful countries, many of which are in Europe. It is a goal of hers to also travel to all fifty states in America. During the summer, Rebecca teaches summer school through Nassau BOCES, and also likes to try to get to the beach as much as possible. She loves to spend time with family and friends, eat delicious new foods, and hunt down new coffee shop locations that are recommended to her.
