Stephanie Teekasingh 2nd Grade, Lower Division
Stephanie attended St. Francis College in iconic Brooklyn Heights; for her Undergraduate studies in Childhood Education with a concentration in English. In addition, Stephanie pursued her Master’s degree in Literacy Teaching and Learning, at SUNY Albany. From youth her interest for teaching children stemmed from: when she babysat her sibling and cousins, conducting a class during play time and assigning homework to reiterate her lessons! Her imagination is limitless in creating the perfect classroom setting tailoring each individual student needs to allow them to accelerate at their natural pace. This is proven from her experience as a TA, substitute teacher, and teaching in ICT classrooms in an urban-centric area...Brooklyn. During her free time, Stephanie enjoys reading and edifying herself on how to become a better teacher. For teaching is not a job it's a profession and lifestyle, where every opportunity from shopping for groceries to driving errands are seen as opportunities to explore and make the most out of your surroundings.
Stephanie’s passion is traveling and learning about new cultures. At least twice a year she travels abroad pursuing a brand new experience and having an open mind each trip. By exposing oneself to different cultures and sharing conversation over meals, she is able to understand the sensitivities of how different people groups view culture. Spending most of her life in Nassau County, she’s grateful for an opportunity to teach in Queens; which is a melting pot of culture. This gives root to more opportunities to learn more about each student, their background, and what they want most out of class. Her hidden talent is cooking and baking. She uses a plethora of various cultural ideas and recipes when stirring up magical goodness!
With a passion to teach and a heart for children, Stephanie never takes a day for granted. Any child can be the next astronaut, preacher, engineer, scientist or social advocate. No dream for a child is far fetched, and it is her fiduciary responsibility in helping students accomplish any dream that their hearts desire.
