Cristina Baron - 1st Grade, Lower Division
Cristina has a degree in Government and Spanish from Franklin and Marshall College. She has also earned her J.D. from the Columbus School of Law. While in law school, Cristina became interested in working with students while completing a project in which she taught students lessons on domestic violence. After law school, Cristina returned to New York where she became a NYC Teaching Fellow and earned her M. Ed. from City College. Cristina is a dedicated life-long learner and hopes to develop that practice in her students.
Cristina was very inquisitive as a child. She always had lots of questions which led her mother to buy Cristina her very own book of questions and answers so she could learn to answer her own questions. Her inquisitive nature continues to this day. Cristina constantly seeks out answers to the questions she has about the world by any means necessary including books, personal interviews and, of course, digital resources. She believes in the importance of children pursuing inquiry in the classroom by providing opportunities for students to pursue the answer to their questions in the classroom.
Cristina went to elementary school at St. Teresa’s in Woodside and attended high school at St. Vincent Ferrer in Manhattan. Her favorite subjects in school were English and Social Studies. The importance of being part of the community and helping to support the community is what lead her to seek teaching as a career path. The importance of being a responsible community member is reflected in how she weaves the social emotional curriculum throughout the day and the school year.
