Jenny Lando, Parent Coordinator

This is Jenny's 6th year as the Q300 Parent Coordinator

Jenny Lando has her degree in Education from Skidmore College and her MSEd in Elementary Education with a Science Specialization from Hunter College. She has taught general and science education across New York City in both public and private schools. She has served as a key member of the American Museum of Natural History’s Education Department, teaching paleontology programs for children and educators and coordinating their immensely popular Moveable Museum program.

As a native New Yorker, Jenny grew up surrounded by parks and cultural institutions. She has a lifelong love of being inquisitive about nature, art and art history. Her sense of wonder about deciduous forests, comparative anatomy and modern art are reasons she became a teacher in the first place. She is on the jury panel for the Riverby Award (John Burroughs Association), which is presented to non-fiction books for young readers as she values the link literacy plays in science.

She lives in Astoria with her husband, and two teens who are in college and high school. Her children are the reason she stopped teaching since she preferred to be home for them. She is a longtime member of Friends of Astoria Heights Park, spends time working backstage at college and Off-Off-Broadway theatres in Manhattan and Queens including Astoria Performing Arts Center, and is a dedicated advocate for gun violence prevention. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with friends and family and cheering for NYCFC.
