Chidi Amasiani

ICT team 6th - 8th grade

Chidi was born and raised in Queens, NY and was a New York City public school student from 3rd - 12th grade. She was accepted into the STEM program at Bayside High School, where she built her love and understanding for math and science. Chidi earned her BS in Toxicology with a Minor in Chemistry at St. John’s University, and received her MSEd specializing in Students with Disabilities at Brooklyn College. She started her teaching career through the NYC Teaching Fellows Program and is a NYS-certified Grade 7-12 Special Education teacher.

As the oldest of four children, Chidi was always teaching her siblings new things. Throughout her childhood and teen years, Chidi experienced many opportunities to teach others, or learn from them. However, it was through her rigorous undergraduate years, that Chidi realized she had a knack for teaching. She always hosted study groups, and had cool ways of understanding various topics. After completing undergrad, she missed the feeling of sharing her knowledge with others, and wanted to pursue it further. Through the NYC Teaching Fellows program, Chidi chose to specialize in special education because she knew she could use her skills to the advantage of her students. By breaking material down and trying different strategies to understand a topic, Chidi knew she would be able to give all of her students various platforms for accessing the curriculum. She is always striving to create an environment of inclusion for all her students, where each of them are held to equitable standards. She wants her students to feel challenged, the way she did in school, so she encourages and welcomes inquiry. Asking questions shows her the students are actively engaged with the teachers and each other. Chidi also hopes to make her students more responsible for their learning, by ensuring they advocate for what they need.

Chidi first gained her love for traveling and world cultures through her study abroad program in college. She is inspired by many things, and is always trying to learn and experience something new. She hopes to spread sunshine where she can, and work with the Q300 community to make it a better place.
