Alejandra graduated from Nyack College with a bachelors in Psychology. She also completed her masters in Childhood Special Education at CUNY, Hunter College. Supporting the social and emotional growth of youth has always been her passion. This led to her interning as a research assistant at Hunter College and then also becoming a teacher.
Alejandra grew up in Florida, but moved to Queens when she was a teenager. She comes from a large Puerto Rican and Cuban family, with four sisters and one brother. As the oldest sister, she always practiced teaching and leading the family pack. She has been teaching for 13 years, but it feels longer!
Alejandra strives to create a positive culture in her classroom that inspires the love of learning and academic success. Engaging and connecting with her class is more important than simply pouring information to her students. When students go into her classroom, they know that they have what it takes to be a motivated student, and that their ideas are valued. She currently teaches ELA and Social Studies, but loves any subject that engages curious minds.
